Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Care Givers, You might not have received all the assignment sheets from all of your child’s teachers as a progress report last week. There may still be a few that will be sent to your email, or mailed if you do not have an email, this week. In sports BGMS Softball plays Fort Bragg on Tuesday, and Laytonville on Wednesday, both at BGMS, beginning at 4:00 pm. Please remember to bring your masks, limit to 4 family members, and keep distance between families. We appreciate that you understand that we have to follow the CDC guidelines to keep our students playing sports, for now. Soccer plays Mendocino on Tuesday at Mendocino, at 4:00 pm, and Willits Youth Soccer on Thursday, beginning at 5:30, at the city fields. On Saturday, May 1st, BGMS will play Grassroots Soccer, at BGMS, beginning at 2:00 pm. We are providing a summer program for students who need to continue their learning, in person, over the summer due to the difficulty they had with distance learning this year. Notices will go out for those who are required to attend, and if you would like your child to participate, please call the main office. The hours are 8 to 12 noon, June 15th through July 13. Ms. Munguia Hola, padres, tutores y cuidadores de BGMS: Es posible que no haya recibido todas las hojas de tareas de todos los maestros de su hijo como un informe de progreso la semana pasada. BGMS Parent Trimester 2 Newsletter~March 2021 VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT We have been telling all parents that Monday, March 15th, every student schedule will change. At the March 10th Board meeting it was decided that teachers will have Monday and Tuesday of next week to finish getting ready to receive students in person on Wednesday, March 17th. Monday and Tuesday there will be NO SCHOOL (in person, or distance, synchronous or asynchronous). Please look on the parent portal in Aeries for your student’s new schedule on Monday, March 15th. Students should receive email invitations for their new Google Classroom from their teachers as well. Ms. Erickson and Ms. Munguia will have a virtual parent meeting on Monday, March 15th, at 5:00pm to answer all of your questions about returning in person. Sixth Grade students, only, will return to in person on Wednesday, 3/18/2021. 8 Things to Practice at Home Now for Classroom Safety when we Return to In-Person Practice with masks Make sure they understand that the mask must cover their mouth and nose. Properly take it on and off without touching the cloth, by the ties or ear loops Write their name with a permanent marker on their mask and store them in individual bags, when not being worn. Talk to them about wearing masks at school all the time, except when they are eating at brunch time. If you don’t already, get in the habit of washing masks daily. Make a big deal out of handwashing Talk to them about the five steps: wer, lather, scrub, rinse and dry. Talk to them about scrubbing with soap and water for 20 seconds Talk to them about when to wash their hands: After using the restroom, playing outside, coughing, sneezing or blowing their nose, before and after eating, and upon entering their home or school. Reinforce these with regular reminders. Hand Sanitizer If they need to wash their hands and they do not have access to soap and water, they can use hand sanitizer. A small amount of hand sanitizer and speak entirely over both hands then allow their hands to air-dry. Hand sanitizer is never to be ingested, and small children need adult supervision to use it. Start a morning symptom check To prepare for what will be a school-day routine, take their temperature every morning and ask if they have a sore throat, cough, upset stomach, headache, or body aches. When school starts a temperature of 100.4 or any of the above symptoms means you should keep your child home. Children need to stay home when sick until at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medicine) and other symptoms have improved, and 10 days since the symptoms first appeared. At school we will be asking students if they screened with an adult that morning. Work on proper coughing, sneezing and nose-blowing Remind them about the proper techniques with tissues Practice coughing into an elbow for when there isn’t time to get a tissue and back away from anyone else who’s coughing, sneezing, or blowing their nose. Be consistent about reinforcing these every time they, or you actually cough, sneeze, or blow your nose. With a little practice it will become second-nature. Remind your child not to touch their face Students should keep their hands away from their face, and mask. Identify high touch surfaces Consider making them part of the cleaning in your household by wiping down high-touch surfaces daily; doorknobs, light switch, handrails, etc. This will help them be more aware of common high-touch surfaces when they are at school. Show what six feet looks like Find a household item that’s about six feet long, and have them get used to imagining it as an example of social distancing. They can count their own steps from one end to the other to get a sense of the distance. Ask them throughout the day what they think is six feet from them. Talk to them about staying six feet apart, and wearing their mask when they are outside as well. To help your child to get used to these habits, try these: Role model the behavior. Use videos available on line (and a BGMS Safety Website to come) . Give positive reinforcement like a high five. Offer small rewards like a few minutes of a favorite activity. Consistently and gently remind them when they need to adjust their behavior. Point out and praise when they are doing things correctly. Parents Have Been Amazing - Message from the Principal I want all of our parents and caregivers to know that during this past year you have done an amazing feat. Yes, they are your children, and finding yourself in a situation that was totally unplanned, you were able to provide the needed assistance to continue the learning process that in person school provides. This was something you may not have had previous knowledge about and your support and perseverance has been an amazing feat. I know that you have been uncertain about how to replace the routine for learning that schools provide. We understand that going from in person to a screen has proven to have many more limitations to instruction. The importance that the physical presence of a teacher can instill in their students does not seem to be possible with online learning. One of the biggest worries as a caregiver may be the social and emotional development of your children being affected by both the pandemic and distance learning at a much deeper level than we realize. Your work has been tireless and we appreciate the partnership. Through all of this many of you have used the resources we have provided on our websites, and kept in close contract with teachers, and support personnel at school. You have built routines, provided creative activities for your children, to keep them learning, and used what community resources were available to keep students connected with their online classes. I applaud your efforts, and know that you did the best you could given the situation. Thank you, this would not have been possible without your help.

Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, We are very happy with the start of our in person instruction. Parents prepared students well with what they might be asked to do. Students have been cooperative at learning the safety protocols, and teachers are getting used to their new routine, quickly. If there is something that this pandemic has taught us is that it takes everyone doing their part to move forward. Our sixth graders are dropped off at the front of the school in the drop off circle. A change is that not all grades will be dropped off at the front of the school. After a recent district decision, we are ready for seventh graders to start on Monday, March 22nd, at 8:00 am. Seventh grade drop off and pick up is behind the cafeteria, on Magnolia Street. Parents, please pull up to the entrance to the parking lot and drop off on the sidewalk, then move on to keep the traffic moving. Then not Monday, but starting Wednesday, March 24th we are ready to welcome back our eighth grade students. Eighth grade drop off will be at the gate on the corner of Locus and Hazel. If you have several grade levels, just pick one of these drop off areas. Thank you for your attention to this. We have learned from other schools that if we only have one drop off traffic becomes a problem. We will be happy to have everyone back! Sra. Munguia

Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, There is no school tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday, March 15 and 16, teachers are preparing for students to return to in person instruction. All students have a schedule change that can be seen on Aeries Parent Portal by the end of the day tomorrow, Monday. Wednesday beginning at 8:00 am sixth graders will return to school. Parents are being asked to pre-screen their children before bringing them to school. In the mailing with report cards there was a page for parents, explaining how to pre-screen children at home. There is only one drop off point for students, that is at the front of the school using the drop off circle. Students will not be allowed to enter anywhere else on campus. Students dropped off anywhere else will be directed to walk to the front of the school to enter campus. All six grade students should bring their Chromebooks to school every day, and make sure they are charged at home, the night before. Students will be given a room number, when they arrive at 8:00 am. Students are dismissed from classes for the day at 12:00 noon. 7th and 8th graders will have a schedule change on Wednesday, but will remain in distance learning for this week. Ms. Munguia and M. Erickson will be available virtually for Parents with questions, or concerns on Monday night at 5:00 pm. Munguia y M.
