Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, This week is the middle of our Trimester 2, and the end of an AR cycle. Every student should have reached their reading goal for this three week period. Every teacher will send an email with the progress sheet for each student. These will be sent to the adults’ email, and it will show missing assignments, completed assignments, and grades to date. Please talk about these with your child. If they are completing most of the work, celebrate with them. If they are missing many assignments, encourage them to complete them. If they need help have them go to after school assistance on Mondays and Wednesdays. If they are discouraged, call us and together we can come up for a plan for their success. Remember that it is about their learning. If they fail two Trimesters of a core class, not only will they have to attend an eight- week summer school, in the summer, in-person, but they will struggle more in school next year. Enrolling in Kids Club is essential and mandatory for our BGMS after school intervention classes. The online application is on their Google Classroom page, please enroll. There are 4 Willits High School students who are ready Monday through Friday from 3:00-6:00 pm to schedule tutoring, and homework help. Please contact Tina at 707-841-8013 or email@example.com. Fun activities are planned, please join in the fun. Check out their Google classroom, Class code jg6tga2. Sra. Munguia
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, We have an attendance challenge starting tomorrow, Monday! Students with 100% attendance in PE, Art, Music, ELD, AVID, and Math Support for 10 days, January 11th through January 22nd, will be entered into a drawing by grade level. One boy and one girl from each grade level have the chance to win $10 gift cards to Safeway. Attendance to all classes was low this past week. When students attend class meetings and do the work for each class, they gain the learning that they will need to pass classes at the high school and not struggle in high school, and earn the necessary credit in classes to gain a high school diploma. There is help! From 3:00 to 4:00 on Mondays and Wednesdays Ms. Wall and Ms. Golding are ready to help in Language Arts, Math, and Science. Call us for the links to these, and let’s make attending classes and learning super important right now so that you can come out ahead and not behind! Remember that this is the fifth week of trimester 2, and on the sixth week we will send out progress checks for all classes. Sra. Munguia
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, We hope that everyone had an enjoyable winter break from school. I want to thank all the parents who joined us for the Honors Assemblies. Something beneficial about the virtual gatherings was that they gave us a chance to have you participate as families. As we begin 2021 we want everyone to know that students returning to in person instruction is a goal we want to accomplish as soon as possible. We are in the fourth week of trimester 2. By Monday of next week all of the teachers’ gradebooks should be updated and the parent portal should show all student work that was completed, and has been graded. If you have questions, please email the teacher of that class. The thing to remember this trimester is that students have work that they must complete asynchronously, or by themselves, right after the classroom Zoom meeting with their teacher. It is not an option to do this work later, it must be done right after the class meeting, because teachers remain available so that they can answer questions, or help students to complete this work. Sra. Munguia
Parents and Students: We are still operating under our Seemless Summer program. Anyone who is 18 years old or younger, enrolled or not, can receive at no cost a breakfast and/or lunch. Households can pick up to five days at a time including weekends. Meals can be picked up at the Willits High School cafeteria Monday through Friday from 8am to 2 PM. Deliveries are available upon request on a daily or weekly basis. During winter break, meals can be picked up Monday and Tuesday, December 21st and 22nd and Monday and Tuesday the 28th and 29th from 8 to 2 PM. You can call the cafeteria to set up delivery or with any questions you may have at 707-459-7700 ex 1555.
Just a reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday, December 15th, is not a minimum day. The minimum day this week is this Friday, December 18th. Students have not been consistently joining their PE, and Exploratory classes. It is important that they attend all the classroom meeting times online. Also, if your student’s schedule changed to include ELD and Math Intervention, these are not optional classes. These are part of the program of support for students, and are a requirement for students. By law the school has to provide this support to students. Complete school attendance, in all classes is very important to the learning of each and every student. Please attend classes all week, and then enjoy your two week break.

Sra. Munguia
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, All students in Art classes this trimester have Art supplies that have been donated by the Rotary Club of Willits. We are excited to have these available for students. Students or parents can pick them up from 7:00 am to 8:00 am and from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Sixth graders on Monday, seventh graders on Tuesday, and eighth graders on Wednesday. Bags have been prepared and will be in front of the school for pick up. Please remember to wear a mask and socially distance. I want to remind everyone that Mondays after school Ms. Wall is available to help virtually with Language Arts work needing to be turned in, and Wednesdays Ms. Golding is available for Math help. Students have links for the after school academic assistance in their classrooms, but if you cannot find the link, call the office and Pam will give it to you. If your student received a no credit grade (NC) in any core course they should be attending this after school assistance class for 9 sessions so that they can make up that grade. Let’s make sure students are getting the help they need. Sra. Munguia
BGMS Trimester 1 Parent Newsletter 12/2/2020 Your Family’s Information is Important Mr. Westerburg, the Superintendent of Willits Unified School District is asking parents to fill out a survey so that we have a better understanding of what is needed when we return to in person instruction possibly as soon as the start of January. Please help us out with the planning by giving us your family’s thoughts. Only 26% of our BGMS families have taken the survey, and it is indicating that half of the families will not return to in person instruction, but want to remain with online learning. We need to hear from the other 74% of families. We want to be well prepared for when we return to in person instruction. Please go on to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdTNwoD3lYplGUpOBaDjXqVJnggfkQrExjieJOdR5_ts_jzAQ/viewform?usp=sf_link and take the survey, today. How does Attendance work this year? Two pieces of legislation, SB 98 and SB 820 make important changes to how we take attendance this year. These have requirements for distance learning, the type of learning we are in now. First it requires that for instruction there be daily interaction between teachers and students, and between students and students. To make sure we included that interaction BGMS set up live online teaching through Zoom or Google Meets for class meetings. If a student joins a class meeting, with their camera on they are given attendance credit for that class. If they have their camera off due to internet problems they are given attendance credit when they respond to the teachers questions. A class also has to have assignments, called classwork. If a student is unable to get into the class meeting, they are not given attendance credit until they complete the classwork for that class, that day. This is only for attendance. The quality of the work, including deadlines for completing the work, and participation in the class meeting determines the grade that is given for the class. This year teachers have to account for who was in the class meeting (synchronous work), and who was not in the class meeting but completed the work (asynchronous work), in their attendance. You should also know that students are expected to do the asynchronous work immediately after the class meeting, before their next class. Most teachers are available during that time if students have questions about what they are doing. Students do not have any homework, after school, unless they do not complete the asynchronous assignments. Assignment Weights in Classes This year as parents are much more involved in the school work of their students we are getting more questions about how assignments add up for grades. I want to explain the different weights that certain assignments have on the overall percentage of the grades. As an example, assignments that are classwork are weighted more heavily on the grade, than participation. Classwork has more of an impact on the overall grade, than participation does in ELA and Math. These weights are decided by departments. English Language Arts weights Participation 10% Classwork 60% Assessment 15% AR 15% Math Weights 6th grade: Classwork 55% Growth Checks (tests/quizzes) 20% Warm-ups 15% Participation 10% 7th grade: Classwork 55% Growth Checks (test quizzes) 20% Warm-up 15% Participation 10% 8th grade Classwork 40% Quizzes and Test 25% Warm-up 15% Final Assessment 10% Participation 10% Teachers will be better able to tell a parent which assignments fall into which categories. Please email the teacher to have further explanations of these. As you probably already know these are the overall grade percentages: A is from 90 to 100 B is from 80 to 89.99 CR is from 60 to 79.99 NC is from 0 to 59.99 The best way to get an answer to your questions is to email the teacher. Going Out of Town In past years when a family went out of town during instructional days, they would sign a modified independent study contract and teachers would give the student the work to complete while they were away. This year the procedure is different. First, if they are going to a place that has internet, and if they are available during the same class scheduled times, students can simply join their classes, and do the work. The assignments given do not have to be different than what is given to the rest of the students in the class. If they are not available, or if they do not have internet access, they will be expected to do the asynchronous work assigned to the class during their time away. If they don't have internet access they will be given time to complete their asynchronous assignments. Chromebook Not Working? If any student has a Chromebook that is broken, or that they are having problems with, we encourage them, or their parents, to come and exchange it for a new Chromebook. Call us or just come from 1 to 3:30 every day. Are you using Aeries Parent Portal? BGMS recently looked to see how many of our parents, guardians, and caregivers use the Aeries Parent Portal to monitor their student’s grades, attendance, missing assignments, and general information. We found that two thirds of these adults are using this resource, which can be easily accessed through the Parent Resources button on the BGMS website http://willitsunifiedca.apptegy.us/o/baechtel. I am urging the one third of parents, guardians, and caregivers who have not yet started using the Aeries portal to call Pam at 459-2417 and she will walk you through the process of launching your parent portal account to have all this information at your fingertips. Our goal is 100% of parents using the Aeries Parent Portal to stay informed. Promotion Policy Whereas it was difficult for us to keep to the Promotion Policy in the 2019-2020 school year, I want to be clear that the Promotion Policy is in effect this school year. The requirements are the same as the last two years, but let me explain the policy in terms of the current grading system we are using. Students must pass Math and Language Arts classes with a CR (credit) or better, two out of the three trimesters to move to the next grade level. Either Social Studies or Science classes must also be passed with a CR or better in two out of the three trimesters. Students may also gain promotion by passing their SBAC tests (there will be state testing in May 2021) in Math and English with a 3 (Meets Standards) or 4 (Exceeds Standards) level score. Students who do not pass classes or the SBAC will be given the opportunity to make up the deficit in summer school. Students who do not perform successfully in Language Arts or Math in summer school will be retained in the previous grade for the core classes they are behind in or all classes if they are unsuccessful in Social Studies or Science classes, as well. Students will be evaluated at the end of the first trimester and if they are working at the “CR” Level in the retained class(es) they will be promoted to the next grade level. Students not performing will remain in the lower grade for the remainder of the school year. The building principal will be responsible for promotion and retention of these students. Students who receive special education services will be moved to grade levels based on the IEP team’s decisions. All students with a grade mark of NC (no credit) in Language Arts or Mathematics, on their report card, are required to attend the After School Academic Assistance classes once a week for each subject beginning immediately. Students in grades 8 who need to attend summer school, that are not on course to be promoted will not participate in the promotion ceremony at grade 8. After the first trimester Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will be determined to be at risk of retention, and will generate parent notification (letters will be sent next week), if they have earned an NC in any of their Core Courses, including Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Science. After the second Trimester eighth grade parents will have a promotion meeting scheduled with the student and the grade level core teachers, if they have two NC’s in any subject. The purpose of this meeting is to develop a Plan for Promotion. Students in grades 6, and 7 will be notified. Students must make up all grade marks of NC in any one core subject. Each grade mark of NC will be made up with 9 sessions of participation, and attendance, in the After School Academic Assistance Program, through the Kids Club after school program (more information about this will be sent home). What about returning to in person instruction? I want the adults in students’ lives to know that at BGMS we are working to make the transition to in-person instruction as smooth as possible. That being said, there is so much to consider, and some things affect the plans being made, when they change. There was a preview sent from the district office about what the student day might be if we were to start in person instruction while we were in the red tier. That plan is now changed because right after that was put out we received guidelines from our local Health Department for in-person instruction. We are continuing to update our plans, and it seems that now we will be able to keep students with their current teachers, and we have more protocols on how to keep students safe while attending to their social emotional well being. We are no longer allowed to return to in-person instruction as a whole school because we have moved back to the purple tier, but we will keep you informed about our plans when in-person instruction is a possibility again. We are grateful for the effort you have given to distance learning. ¿Chromebook no funciona?

Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Care Givers, We hope that everyone had an enjoyable break, and is ready to continue learning in the second trimester of this school year. I am sure that you are all aware that as a county we have slipped back into the purple, Tier 1, and that prohibits us from opening our schools to in person instruction for everyone. As we begin the second trimester we want to again offer parents any information they may need to support their students’ education. The time we have set aside is Wednesday at 5:30 pm for in person conversations, if you call us we can arrange a time that may be more convenient for you, and a virtual information session, if needed. If you have questions as you receive the Trimester 1 report cards this week, the best way to communicate with teachers is through email. This Wednesday we will have a BGMS School Site Council meeting beginning at 3:30 pm, virtually. The Zoom link will be placed on the BGMS website. Sra. Munguia
So far WUSD has only received responses representing 370 of approximately 1500 students in the district. In order for us to get a clearer picture of your wishes, we must hear from more of our families. Below are the current results. If you have not filled out the survey please click on this link. https://www.willitsunified.com/o/wusd/page/school-reopening
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians and Caregivers, This is the last week of the trimester. ELA and Math classes will be involved in end of the trimester testing this week. We will not have final grades until December 2nd when report cards will be mailed out to parents. Please take advantage of the Monday and Wednesday virtual after school academic assistance classes for ELA and Math if students need any help completing any work they may be missing in those classes. Students have links to these classes in their classrooms. This week we are exchanging the White Chromebooks for new Chromebooks. Please bring them with the charger to the library from 1:00pm to 3:30 pm any day this week. Call us if you need to do the exchange at another time during the day, and we can make an appointment for you. Monday, 11/23, is the start of trimester 2. Some students will be changing their exploratory and PE classes to the AVID Elective, Math Intervention, or English Language Development. Any changes in schedule will be announced in the student’s email. Make sure that your student checks their email on that day. This day is also a remote learning day, only. There will not be any Zoom classroom meetings. Students are expected to work on the assignment given by the teacher in their classroom on their own. The 24th through the 27th of November is the Thanksgiving Break. Zoom classes will resume on Monday, November 30th. Sra. Munguia
WUSD has developed a draft plan with input from administration and teachers on how to reopen schools safely. I expect that this plan will have changes to it as time, data and procedures change. A major goal before coming back on site is to develop a viable academic plan, share it with our parents and then poll our parents to determine who wants to send their students back to on-site learning. Without question, WUSD will be following all the County Health Department guidelines for example; masks will be required, social distancing as much as possible, and small cohort sizes. I envision there is a group of parents who are not going to send their child back regardless of the hybrid model we have in place and others who are passionate about getting them back in even if it’s for a short period of time. WUSD wants to provide what the community needs and will have options for either on-site or to continue with distance learning. In order to provide our parents with choices it may require some staff movement and could take some time to put in place. WUSD will be doing a survey with the parents of all students to get information back to help plan for a reopen, whenever that can take place. The district has all the PPE necessary for staff and students. Every classroom will have a hospital grade air purifier and daily disinfection. Each site will have a set of health standards protocols. (Attached) At this time, COVID numbers are growing daily and reopening in a fully hybrid model is in not a good idea. The District also has several import safety items on back order, such as air purifiers. Currently WUSD is allowing students on campus to meet one on one with their teachers as needed, and providing direct services for our students with special needs. In the next few weeks, I would like the coaches to begin athletic conditioning with our students, following all the rules established by the athletic department. With the holidays approaching this is an opportune time to refine the practices and protocols. After the holidays, in mid-January we will have data to determine if it is allowable to reopen. Baechtel Grove Middle School will begin replacing broken student Chromebooks this Thursday, and Friday November 10th and 11th. Students, or Parents, Guardians, or Caregivers can bring the broken Chromebook to the BGMS library between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm, and they will be issued a new Chromebook. Please do not come before those hours because at other times we have students on campus. If any part of the Chromebook is broken, bring it in for a replacement. Do not forget to bring in the charger as well because the new Chromebooks do not use the same charger. Also, you might want to consider purchasing insurance for the new Chromebook. This is available from the company until the end of November. We will have that information for you.
Hello BGMS Parents, Thank you to our parent Site Council members who are giving us good input from a parent perspective. There are only two weeks left to Trimester 1. Remember that if you have a question about a class, you should email the teacher with your question. This Wednesday is the Veterans Day Holiday. There will not be any classes that day. Thursday BGMS will have an ELAC parent meeting in person for parents of the English Learner students. Everyone please wear masks. The meeting will be conducted in Spanish, with English translation if needed, in room 3, at 5:00 pm. If there are too many of us to socially distance we will move to the cafeteria. Finally, I want to think Willits Rotary for their donation of 4,000 dollars’ worth of Art supplies for all of our students in the Art classes. These supplies are for materials for students to take home. We appreciate their help. Thank you for your attention and goodbye. Sra. Munguia

If You Want Your Taxes to Stay Local, Choose Measure I Willits public schools are in desperate need of maintenance and repairs. Every single school in the Willits Unified School District leaks when it rains, and that’s just the beginning. The longer we defer maintenance, the more expensive repairs will become. The question is how do we, as a community, raise funds to pay for those repairs? In the upcoming election, there is a statewide proposition and a local ballot measure that address school funding. California Proposition 15 would only guarantee an additional $15,000 per year for Willits schools (or $180,000 over 12 years). Measure I would allow Willits schools to raise $17 million over 12 years. If Prop. 15 passes, California schools will get 40 percent of the revenue. Of that, community colleges will receive 11 percent. The remaining funds would be divvied up among K-12 schools statewide. Prop. 15 isn’t polling very well, so depending on it to fund local school repairs is a big risk, but even if it does pass, it only guarantees $100 per student per year, not nearly enough to pay for the upkeep required for Willits schools. It’s possible that more revenue could come our way, but there’s no guarantee. On the other hand, if Measure I passes, 100 percent of revenue would remain local and go toward repairing and maintaining Willits public schools, including charter schools. Because the general obligation bond will be issued in four or more stages, the school board can reduce the burden on taxpayers should economic conditions change or other funding, such as Proposition 15, become available. As a reminder, Measure I would cost property owners a maximum of $40 per $100,000 of assessed value (not market value) per year. Assessed value is determined by the Mendocino County Assessor and is listed on your property tax bill. If, for example, your house is assessed at $250,000, your overall annual bill would be $100 (that’s about $8 per month). With these funds, public schools in Willits would have the funds to responsibly fix what is broken and keep school facilities in good repair. Willits Unified projects include replacing broken furniture at schools districtwide, repairing the roof at Blosser Lane Elementary, purchasing portable classrooms at Brookside Elementary and cafeteria tables at Baechtel Grove Middle School, paving parking lots at Willits High and the District Office, updating science classrooms at Baechtel Grove and Willits High, and similar projects. Proposition 15 is a whole different deal. I’m not recommending a vote for or against Prop. 15; that’s a personal decision. I’m just letting you know that Prop. 15 is unlikely to provide the funds needed to maintain local schools. Please realize that a vote in favor of Proposition 15 does not replace the need for Measure I. With Measure I, you will be able to see your tax dollars at work here in Willits. In the last election, 162 people skipped over the school bond—leaving it blank rather than voting yes or no—presumably because they didn’t feel they knew enough to make a good decision. My goal here is to provide information so voters feel comfortable taking a position one way or another. Please don’t leave it blank. If you need more information, I am happy to answer any questions you may have. You can reach me at the district office at 707-459-5314.

Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, There are six weeks left in this trimester 1. This is the midpoint in the trimester and we will be sending out progress reports this week. Please look in the US mail for a progress check for your student’s classes, from BGMS. Parent/Teacher conferences are two weeks away. We will be calling this week to set up times for parents to meet with teachers about the progress of our students. We know that our partnership with parents is based on communication, and we want to talk with both parents and students about their successes, please allow us to set these meetings to communicate student goals and strategies to accomplish them. The Student Council met this week and they will be leading students in whole school virtual activities to promote social connection with their peers. Kids Club is starting a Family Fitness time after school from 3:30 to 4:30 pm, in a couple of weeks. We hope the whole family will want to be a part of this exciting time focused on physical movement. The BGMS after school intervention classes will begin in two weeks as well. We will be helping students in Math and Language Arts virtually. We know that the situation we are in has caused families to be isolated. We hope that these activities will help everyone offset their isolation. We post all times and days to the live feed on our website, or call the office for more information. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.

HOTSPOT at home For people who have cell service this is how you make your iphone a hotspot so your chromebook can connect to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NToTQfrdNHg This is how you turn your Android phone into a hotspot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-Y1HS4j8SU This would work for people who have good phone service but don't pay for home internet service. This is how you can check to see if a hotspot will work in your location. The hotspot is simply just like the phone for access to the internet.
Hello BGMS Parents and Students, This is Ms. Munguia, Principal at BGMS. I hope that everyone is well and enjoying the summer months. We are preparing to start the school year in a different way than how we ended last June. We have been updating our distance learning program, for students, and parents. • First you will receive a call from the office staff the week of August 17th to update your family’s communication information, to check on your internet access, and to give you further information. • Remember that the first day of this school year will be August 31st • Sixth graders should expect a call from their WEB Leaders for a getting to know each other session, and a middle school orientation on Friday, August 28th. • BGMS students will have three Blocks to their day. One for Language Arts, one for Math, and one for PE and Exploratory, with four teachers. Social Studies and Science will be part of Language Arts and Math. • The students’ day will run from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, however, students will not be on the computer for that length of time. • There will be internet access, for those who do not have it at home, on the BGMS campus, and in the community. • Teachers will be: teaching live virtual lessons daily, hold virtual one on one meetings for students who need help, and be available to show students how to do the on line work. • The first two weeks of school will have opportunities to orientate parents and students to distance learning. The staff at BGMS are committed to being here for you, and our children. Thank you for listening and goodbye.
All WUSD schools will open on August 31, 2020 with a Distance Learning program. This plan is based upon the Governor’s order for school districts within counties placed on the state Watch List. Even though our county is not currently on the Watch List (as of August 4, 2020), Dr. Doohan has advised that our county data meets the criteria and is therefore recommending that all schools in Mendocino County open with a Distance Learning model. The state has defined the requirements for schools in order to provide high quality learning for all students. Our instructional program will be very different than it was in the spring, when we were mandated to close with little to no planning time. Teachers and staff have been working throughout the summer to develop methods and curriculum that will be effective and engaging. All students will be scheduled to be online daily at specific times to receive instruction from their teachers and to participate in activities where they will interact with their peers. Independent activities will also be part of the instructional program and will take place during specified time periods. Teachers will create a daily schedule for their classes that will outline the specific times and activities that students must complete. You will receive information regarding the specific schedules within the next couple of weeks. The district is committed to helping our families and will be reaching out with phone calls beginning August 17th. We appreciate your support as we continue to fine-tune all of the many details involved in our instructional delivery method. I have every confidence that with the help of our parents, our staff can provide an excellent program that addresses your students’ needs. For households unable to receive Internet we are looking at the possibility of opening school campuses on a limited basis, we also purchased equipment to have Wi-Fi on our school buses that will be placed around the community for internet access, as well as working with our local businesses to open up Wi-Fi to the public. WUSD will also provide devices such as chrome books, iPads, and headphones for all students who need them. In most cases grades 3-12, your child should have their own device. We truly miss you and look forward to the days when we can reopen schools, please stay tuned for more detailed information in the near future. Thank you all for being a part of Willits Unified School District. Mark Westerburg
At the July 17th WUSD School Board Meeting, two important decisions were made. First, we will start school on Monday August 31st. Secondly, the WUSD schools will begin the year in a remote (distance) learning environment. It is the goal of the staff to provide a much improved educational experience for students. In grades TK-2 we will focus on packets for students that go with our curriculum and will allow parents to follow the process. In grades 3-5 we will be using workbooks and technology provided by WUSD to enhance the work. Baechtel Grove Middle School will be using a schedule that provides four periods of core instruction, one of PE and an elective period. They will have live online instruction every single day from the district adopted curriculum. We are also providing parent support for technological and other questions and concerns, as well as informational training. You will be able to call the school directly and get a response from designated staff. We all believe that you need to be adequate and meaningful partners in this work. At the High School students will have a three period schedule where the courses last six weeks. Each school will be providing parents and students with many details and procedures in late August before we start. We will transition to on site classroom instruction as soon as the health guidelines allow us to do so. If we want our children back at school, as a community we need to continue to follow health guidelines, to not get on the county watch list with the state. The district is working with other local governmental agencies to provide more free internet access, as well as exploring opening up our school libraries to download assignments. The CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) Sports have been shifted to two seasons with one beginning in mid December and the second season starting in mid March. The majority of sports will be offered, just compacted into two seasons. Their online instruction will look very different this year, as teachers increase their knowledge of virtual instruction. We will be in communication with families as the situation changes. Please stay patient as we transition to this changing environment.
The WUSD School Board is meeting tomorrow night to do some needed business and discuss the reopening options for the fall. There will not be a decision made, it is to soon to know what it will look like on Aug. 31st. When we do consider opening in the fall it will be in a more Covid prepared schedule or remotely. Our goal is to allow parents choice of doing independent study or back in classroom instruction if the conditions allows it. I use the restaurant mentality, if we can’t be in the inside of the restaurant, we can’t be in the classrooms. If the rules are some percentage capacity in the restaurant with masks we will try and provide that option in classrooms. In mid-August our goal will be to call each family and ask parents to choose an option of in class or independent study and we will make the staffing adjustments needed. Beyond staffing we will need to make building specific plans for situations that may occur. Our goal is to provide the safest environment we can and give parents options. If we had to start tomorrow our data is trending the wrong way and the guidelines are locking down more not less, so we would be on home instruction. If you would like to give the board information please use my email address to do so. ( email@example.com ) If you would like to participate in the zoom board meeting this is the address https://us04web.zoom.us/j/9782489039?pwd=V0U2cUtHZUMzQk5xR3d5Vy9wT1JkZz09 There is also a chat box to ask questions or use your time during the public comments section. The WUSD staff is working hard this summer to get ready for this new situation that provides the safest and best academic environment we can financially afford to do.
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, This is Ms. Munguia with some last minute end of the year information. If your student has not returned their Chrome book to us, please do so by the end of the week, or you will be charged a $200 replacement fee. Someone is here from 8 am to 3 pm. Everyone will be receiving a trimester 3 report card this week. You will notice that the GPA was not calculated. This was done because the mixture of letter grades and credit/no credit grades would not produce accurate GPA's. To not effect any GPA's in a negative manner we did not calculate them. Finally, for parents of students in the Early High School Program, we want you to know that you have to make the counselors at the high school aware if you want your child in English 10. Please send an email with your request to the high school counselor assigned to your child. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.

Friday, June 5th is the last day that all students can turn in their Chromebooks, textbooks, instruments, and library books to the BGMS library. All these must be turned in by Friday, even if they are attending summer school. Yearbooks can be picked up at the same time. Friday is the last day of this school year. Report cards will be mailed out at the beginning of next week. It has been a challenging time for all of us. Equally for parents who went from being provided most of the service of educating their child, to having to provide a large majority of that service themselves. I am proud of how you came together as a family with many providing support to their own, and other children to accomplish the learning for our students. The children of this community have benefited from the hard work put forth on their behalf, not only in their education, but in their quality of life during this pandemic. I sincerely thank you for facing this situation with courage and resolve, and putting fears aside, for the wellbeing of children. I will be in communication with you about the start of next year in early August. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
Hello BGMS Parents, This is Ms. Munguia with an important announcement about Yearbooks. We have confirmation that we will be able to give our eighth graders their Yearbooks during the Promotion Celebration. If students have purchased a yearbook, they will be included in with the eighth grade Promotion Certificates, at the Promotion Celebration. If they have not yet purchased a yearbook, but would like to, please come by BGMS 8:00 am to 4:00 pm tomorrow, Friday, or Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of next week, with 40 dollars, in either exact change, or a check to purchase one. Sixth and seventh graders will be able to pick up their yearbooks on Friday, June 5th at the same time that they turn in their Chromebooks. They too can come by to purchase a yearbook if they have not purchased one yet. Don’t wait, do it right away. We only had 75 published, and there are only 47 available to be purchased. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.

Hello BGMS Parents, This is Ms. Munguia with information for this week. I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day Holiday, but that students continued to complete some of the work they may not have completed. All work that is to be graded is due to teachers by June 3rd, next Wednesday. We will be receiving packets tomorrow, Tuesday for any week up to week 9. Week 10 work does not have to be turned in. We will also be here next Monday, June 1st for work to be turned in, from 8 am to 4 pm. Zoom classroom meetings will continue this week, and will not continue after the end of this week. As we wind up the school year, please keep in mind that we will be collecting Chromebooks from students on Friday, June 5th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. These have to be brought by the BGMS library, on that day. A reminder to bring in all BGMS library books, and check out our parent resource site at https://bgmsparentresources.weebly.com/. Next week is the last week of this school year. It has been an exciting year, for many reasons! Ms. Erickson and myself would like to make ourselves available to students for any questions they might have for us pertaining to the end of the year, summer school, or things to come. We will be posting a schedule of Zoom and in person meetings. These are for students, however, I will put out information for parents about questions students had, kind of like frequently asked questions. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
Hello BGMS Eighth Grade Parents, This is Ms. Munguia with a few announcements that are for our eighth grade students only. They have started the course selection process using a google form. It was emailed to all 8th grade Willits Unified student email addresses. All the students need to do is log into their email and click on the form to access it and start choosing classes for next year. Thy have set the deadline to make selections as Thursday 5/21. They realize there are several students who do not have reliable internet so they plan to call those students after 5/21. If they families not have internet the counselors will connect via telephone the week of 5/26 through 5/29. If you do not know what to sign up for, make an appointment with a counselor at https://calendly.com/nicoleburke, or call the high school at 459-7700, ext. 1514, or text Ms. Bravo if you have her phone number. This is a high school process, it is not from BGMS. The Promotion Celebration, however, is the last event we will have for our eighth grade students. That celebration will be explained in a letter that will be included in the progress report, and promotion letter that will go out tomorrow Monday. Keep learning, and completing work, just three weeks left. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Care Givers, This is Ms. Munguia with information for this week. This is classified school employee’s appreciation week. We would like to recognize all of our secretaries, instructional aides, cooks, custodians, maintenance staff, techs, and librarians as doing essential work, and being extraordinary workers. Every parent, guardian, or caregiver should be receiving a letter that will be sent out tomorrow, about the promotion status of every student, and summer school information, if needed. More specific information about the Summer School session will be shared with parents as the date gets closer. Tomorrow is pick up for packets for week 9 work, and 10 fun activities. All student assignments to be graded for this trimester 3, must be to teachers by June 3rd. If your student applied for an AVID, Peer Helper, WEB, or Student Council position they can expect an email from the advisor this week with their status. Here is another friendly reminder that any library books from the BGMS library need to be turned in before June 1st. Please bring them by on Mondays. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
Hello Fifth Grade Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, This is Ms. Munguia, Principal of Baechtel Grove Middle School with two important dates this week. It is unfortunate that we will not be able to bring fifth grade students in for a visitation this year. We would still like to give you information about some of our programs. Mr. Olds, the Band Director at BGMS is holding an information session for you about students joining the sixth grade band for next year. That will be a Zoom meeting online. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday night, May 19th, at 5:00 pm. Please email him at firstname.lastname@example.org, if you are interested, for a link to that meeting. I will be holding an information night for anyone interested in the AVID Elective for their student in sixth grade, as well. That meeting will be Wednesday, May 20th, at 5:00 pm, also on Zoom, and you can email me for that link email@example.com . Just a reminder that the application for both of these can be picked up tomorrow, Monday, from the BGMS library, from 8 to 4. If anyone is interested and does not have internet service, we would be happy to give you information over the phone. Please call the BGMS office and leave a message, please include your phone number. We look forward to having all of the fifth graders at BGMS next year. I want to assure parents that we will have a WEB program with 8th grade mentors, and there will be an orientation before the start of the next school year. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals at school will get extra food benefits. These food benefits are called Pandemic EBT or P-EBT benefits. P-EBT benefits help families in California buy food when schools are closed because of the coronavirus emergency. Families will get up to $365 per eligible child on their P-EBT card to use on food and groceries. Families with children who get CalFresh, Medi-Cal or Foster Care benefits do not need to apply. Most will get their P-EBT card in the mail during the month of May. P-EBT cards will begin arriving around May 12, 2020.
Hello BGMS Parents, This is Ms. Munguia with information for this week. First there is a message from Tina at the Kids Club after school program. BG Kids Club is onsite M-W-F beginning Monday the 11th from 1:00-4:00 for parents/students to come pick up items, clothing and completed art projects that are at Kids Club Rm. 15. The pottery is beautiful and ready for you to pick up. We are offering a wide selection of fun games, puzzles and a variety of artsy materials. Applications for our 2020-21 year are available. We, at Kids Club, have missed each of you very much and know we were always in the background cheering you on with your new online education. If the days and times listed above do not work for you, please call me at 841-8013, Tina. Please remember that tomorrow all applications for WEB, AVID, Peer Helpers, and Student Body Officers have to be turned in to the BGMS library. If your student has an application and you cannot get it to us tomorrow, please call the school and leave a message. If students have Art to pick up, or masks from Ms. Haigounian’s classes, or items from Ms. Larson’s classes come to the library tomorrow between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm and we will help you get them. This is week 8 of distance learning, we have just one more week of work assignments, a week of fun assignments, and a week to catch up before final grades are given. Now is the time to make sure your student has all their work turned in. Next week, May 18th promotion and summer school notification letters go home. Don’t forget to bring in our library books. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
All middle and high school students need to understand that my message about moving up to the next grade level, means that you will go to the next grade. However, if you are not doing your work, you will be repeating those required classes and be credits short that you need to make up. Regardless of your grade credits are required to graduate. Reminder regarding graduation status! Those seniors who meet the state graduation requirements will receive diplomas. Those seniors who don't complete the coursework, we will continue to work with you even into July and August. We are only a few weeks away from the end of the school year, so now is the time to finish strong. June 5th is still currently the date of graduation The school district is going to wait until we have specific guidelines from the state or county health department that covers the time period of June 5th or beyond, prior to announcing any graduation plans. Mark Westerburg
It certainly appears that we will not be returning to normal classroom settings for the remainder of this school year. All school sites have made plans to continue with modified school instruction through the end of May. The first week of June will be used for students to turn in all assignments and for teachers to assign grades. All students will be moved to the next grade unless discussions about retention have already taken place. Although very unlikely- if it is possible before this school year ends to bring back a limited number of students, the District would consider the following: Brookside grade 2 only, Blosser Lane grade 5 only, BGMS grade 8 only and all seniors at WHS. In regards to graduation our preference is to wait it out, meet as a group and make it happen. As I have stated before, we can do it in August if necessary. I prefer this idea over a virtual ceremony. Middle school and high school campuses are planning to hold a summer school session from July 27th through August 14th. WUSD is willing to provide support to all other summer session programs which use our facilities so they may become operational. In regards to the governor's comments about starting school July 1st. There are more problems with that Idea than good. A major issue for a third of our students is transportation, can they get on the bus, with such a confined space we would have to limit buses to 12 students and this is a problem. Another large issue is the heat in July, only about 40% of our facilities have air conditioning and classrooms would be very warm. Along with this are summer jobs, summer school, cleaning facilities, adding 20+ days to teachers' work year, new teachers who won't be here yet, plus all the added cost for operations for a month and half. Although we are anxious to all be together again an early start is not the best plan. When all the students come back in August we will all work aggressively to get back on track. I commend all of our parents and staff for working through this situation, hang in there. My biggest concern in coming back together is the health of our adult staff, the impact from the virus can be harsh and we have a small number of substitutes available. The need to social distance even with a small group is very tough with young kids. If we do have to create A and B days for students to limit the exposure we will do so. Bus routes, siblings, teachers, children and creating off day work for students will be a challenge but we will do it if necessary. In conclusion, we are waiting it out and hopeful that summer will get us a little closer too normal. Our goals for Willits Unified are to finish the year in distance mode, have a graduation ceremony, provide whatever educational services we can in the summer and get ready for next school year. Mark Westerburg
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, This is Ms. Munguia with information for this week. We are in week 7 of distance learning. We have only three more weeks of assignments that students need to complete this year. Week 7, Week 8, and Week 9. After Memorial Day there will be no new assignments just some fun activities that teachers will put together for students, and, of course, the last two weeks is time to turn in any missing assignments. The school year ends on June 4th. The week of May 18th we will be sending the next progress reports home. This will include the promotion status of the student, and a Summer School registration, if needed. Parents can email teachers if they want to join a Zoom meeting to ask the teacher questions. How to join a Zoom meeting is information that you will find in the BGMS Parent Recourses website at https://bgmsparentresources.weebly.com/. All students with internet should be attending their classroom Zoom meetings. They should log on within the first 15 minutes because teachers will close the meeting if no one attends, after a half hour. This is how they are getting help with the assignments, talking to teachers, and seeing their friends. The teacher always has something to show their students during a Zoom meeting. If students are interested in being in WEB, AVID, Peer Helpers, or Student Council Officers for next year, they have to pick up an application tomorrow from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in front of the BGMS Library. Let me know if you cannot make it during this time and we will make other arrangements. Applications are due next Monday. This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. BGMS teachers have done an amazing job of transitioning to distance learning posting lessons, calling parents and students, supporting learning, and responding to needs. I am inviting all students to write a heartfelt card of appreciation for their teachers. They can be included in with their packets tomorrow, or they can hold them up during their Zoom classroom meeting this week. Bring any type of appreciation by school this week, we will make sure it is sanitized and that the teacher gets it. Don’t forget about the library books, bring them by on Monday. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, This is Ms. Munguia with some exciting news. Ms. Bravo has made a website of resources exclusively for you at https://bgmsparentresources.weebly.com/. These resources are in different places, but we wanted to put everything in one place so that you did not have to search. Distance Learning, Community, and more resources are all available. Tomorrow and Tuesday are the last two days for student pick-ups of items in the PE Lockers. Someone will be available from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm at the locker rooms. All PE clothes not picked up will be used as loaners for next year. Thank you to everyone who has been dropping off the library books for BGMS. We still have many books checked out to students. Please bring them by every Monday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. If students are struggling with on line work from any class, paper packets are available to them. We are available every Monday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm for packet pick up and drop off. If students are having trouble doing their work, they can attend the teacher’s class meetings, on Zoom, or email the teacher. If you do not have internet access, call our office and leave a message. We will give the teacher a message to contact the student by phone. Please do not feel that you are alone, with no help, we are in this together. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, This is Ms. Munguia with another few items for your consideration. I am trying to not overwhelm you, but give you information that will make the at home learning more comfortable. This is a reminder to parents and students to check their Google Classroom stream for each class and their email on a daily basis, for online students, of course. We've found that only a few are doing so and it makes it difficult to provide assistance and/or feedback if students aren't attending the Zoom class meetings and only checking their emails and classroom once a week. All the teachers are reminding students of their Zoom classroom meetings in their Google classrooms. There are two things this week that students need to do, one is to turn in any BGMS library books that they may have at home. They can drop them off in the box outside of the library every Monday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Also this week, 7th and 8th graders should come to school and take out everything that is in their PE lockers. Please drive up behind the gym, and the aides will help your child get their things out of the lockers in the locker rooms. There will be a list, and students will only be able to take things out of their own locker. Only the student needs to stand in line to go into the locker room. Please don’t forget to take the at home distance learning BGMS Parent Survey. The link is in the BGMS website in the live feed announcements. This week every parent or guardian should be receiving in the mail a progress check for their student of the first three weeks at least, of the distance learning. Included in the mailing will be a BGMS Newsletter and the email addresses for all teachers. Many parents have been asking for some way to know how many assignments their students are turning in, and if they are doing enough. The purpose of this progress check is to provide information to parents. Students doing packets, remember to bring in your week 4 work tomorrow and pick up week 5. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
I have attached a link to the CENSUS 2020. It is very important for school funding to have an accurate census for the district. Federal funding inTitle Programs, food service and grant opportunities come from census data. It is very quick and easy to do. https://my2020census.gov/
UPDATED ZOOM SCHEDULE Parents and Guardians, Here is a copy of the Zoom Meeting Schedule. Each teacher is listed by grade level and period. If you have any questions please contact the office- 707-459-2417 and be sure to leave a message. These meetings are office hours and do not count for a grade. The Zoom Meetings are one of the ways that we are staying connected to our students. Missing your students, Ms. Erickson
This is the link to the BGMS Parent/Guardian Distance Learning Survey. We would like all of our Parents, Guardians, Caregivers, and any adult who is helping students with their work at home, to take this survey.
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, This is Ms. Munguia with announcements for this week. I hope that everyone had an enjoyable break last week with no additional assignments. From the Superintendent’s message, it is now evident that we will be in partnership with parents for at home learning for the rest of this school year, but hang in there we only have about seven weeks left in the school year, and we know that this will take additional supports for both students, and those helping them learn at home. We are receiving many ideas for supports from other districts in California. We want to know specifically what actions we can take to make the learning more comfortable and more effective at home. We are asking students and parents (including everyone who helps them learn at home) to take a survey to help us understand these needs. Students will be sent the survey to their email, tomorrow, and parents, guardians, and caregivers will be sent the link to their phones in a text message, tomorrow, as well, or they can access the survey through the link on our website. Families who pick up packets will be provided a paper copy of the survey. Teachers will continue to post assignments to their Google Classrooms by 10:00 am on Mondays, and packets can be picked up, and turned in, in the library, from 8:00am to 4:00 pm on Mondays. Please bring in week 4 and pick up week 5 tomorrow. We also would like you to return the library books on Mondays, just drop them off in the box in front of the office. We will post the Class Schedule of Zoom meetings on the BGMS website so that you know when students can meet with their classes (each one of them) to get help from the teacher. If you have questions call the main office and leave a message, or send me an email, firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
Hello BGMS Parents, Caregivers, and Guardians, This is Ms. Munguia with a clarification for Baechtel Grove Middle School. We are in week #3 of our at home learning. For our families who are working on paper packets, that packet of work does not have to be turned in until Monday, April 13th. For everyone, there are no additional assignments for next week. It is our Spring Break. Take the time to do something especially fun at home with your children. There are many suggestions at www.randomactsofkindness.org/, or learn how Google Classroom works with this YouTube video "Parent's Guide to Google Classroom." Students can also work on any work they have not completed for any teacher. The next week is week #4 and that work will be available on April 13th as well, for everyone. We appreciate the help that students have been receiving at home for their at home learning, and thank you in advance for the weeks to come. We hope you are safe, happy, and enjoy your week. Thank you or your attention and goodbye.
Willits Unified Schools has extended the Modified School period through Friday May 1st. All the Mendocino County Schools will be under this extension. We will be monitoring the situation. I look forward to returning to school as soon as it is safe for staff and students to be together.
Hello Parents, This is Ms. Munguia with announcements for this week. Parents are doing an amazing job of keeping students learning. We are moving into our third week of at home learning. Teachers will be posting their assignments in their Google Classrooms by 10:00 am on Monday. Teachers will also be providing face to face, meeting time for classes online this week. The teacher will invite their students through the Google classroom. Also on Monday we will be receiving completed packets and handing out week 3 packets, at the BGMS Library from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. This will only take place on Monday. Please have each teacher’s work stapled together, and the student’s name on each stapled group. After this week is our Spring Break. Teachers will not put out any additional work that week. It will be time for students to catch up with any week 1, 2 or 3 work that they might not have completed. Breakfast and lunch pick up, from 8 to 10 and 11 to 1, at Willits High School will continue during the week of spring break. Parents can still go to the parent portal and see how their students work is being graded. For Chromebook issues please email the director of technology at email@example.com. It is very important that students continue to do the work they are given, to the best of their ability. We will not be learning at home forever. Continuing to learn, and practice what we know, while we are home, will keep students on course to be able to do the next grade level work. As usual, if you have questions, or a need, please call the BGMS office and leave a message. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
Hello BGMS Parents, This is Ms. Munguia. We have completed one week of at home learning. You have done a tremendous job of keeping your students learning online, or with packets. It has not been easy for you, students, or teachers to learn our new system of learning. Thank you to those of you who gave us feedback. We will continue to refine our skills needed for this system. We have a lot of resources that are being sent to us from outside sources. I know that grading is a concern for everyone. As we move to week two, teachers will be talking to students about how they are grading. I will not call you on Sunday, but I will give you directions for continuing to week number 2 now. Those who are working online will have all work uploaded by 10:00 am on Monday morning. Remember to submit your work through Google Classroom, by today, and Friday of each week, unless you hear differently from your teacher. If you have paper packets, come on Monday to the BGMS Library, 8th grade from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, 7th grade from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, and 6th grade from 11:00 am to 12:00 am. We have to scatter you due to the social distancing requirement. Staple each teacher separately, you will put them in the teacher’s box. Go to your first period teacher’s box and in front of the box you will find all your teacher packets for week #2 clipped together under your name. There will be a staff member there to assist you. If there are any questions, please call the office, and leave a message. Again, these are challenging times, we will get through this sooner if we take care of each other. Thank you for picking up materials, and getting students online. We are committed to take care of their learning needs. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
Hello BGMS Parents, This is Ms. Munguia with a second set of very important information about the educational program while students do not have classes at school. As you probably heard from the Superintendent our office will be closed as of 4:00 today, Wednesday. On Monday, March 23rd, to drop off the completed packets come to the BGMS library. Staple each teacher’s work together. You will be dropping these off in individual teacher boxes. If you had a packet for week 1 your packet for week 2 will be ready, on Monday. If you do not have a packet for week one, and need a packet for week 1 or 2 please call and leave a message with your student’s name and the week that they need. If there is internet access in the home, students should continue to work on their Google Classrooms. Please call our office and leave a message if you have any questions. If you have an emergency call the district office at 708-459-5314. We know that it will take all of us working together to get through this situation, please let us know if there is something we can do to make it easier for you. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
The best way to contact staff is through email. All district emails are first and last name @willitsunified.com. For example firstname.lastname@example.org Important information for WUSD is located on the district website under the Modified School Information link. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/19avYBzh8L5XfvixXwXPz6-Yg23G08uyF
Mendocino County will be going into a shelter in place at 10 PM tonight. Based on that all buildings will be closed on Thursday until further notice. The phones will be monitored and checked remotely. Student food pick up at WHS will continue as scheduled.
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, This is Ms. Munguia with further announcements to this week. This was a good start to our independent study at home. Some students began submitting work today, some came in for packets, chargers, and Chromebooks. All students should begin their work by tomorrow. If you have any questions about the online work, first email the teacher, then wait a day, if they do not respond, call our office. This is a reminder that if you do not have internet service at home, call our office and we will get your packets ready and then call you to pick them up. Chargers for Chromebooks that were not taken home are now available for students to pick up. First period teachers will begin contacting students to check in with them about their work. Our office will remain open from 8:00 to 4:00 for the rest of the week. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
I have put together a folder of information to share with parents and students during this non-classroom instruction time. It is my intent to continue to add to this as we go through the weeks. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/19avYBzh8L5XfvixXwXPz6-Yg23G08uyF?usp=sharing
Let me tell you what I saw today on the first day on non-traditional school for WUSD. https://drive.google.com/file/d/179V-ymN3MUqEwGKiAo7HeEmePOVhLJZN/view?usp=sharing
Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, This is Ms. Munguia with very important information for this week. I hope you received the Superintendent’s message letting you know that we will not have students at school, in classes beginning tomorrow, until April 13th. Students, however, are still expected to do their school work at home, for the next three weeks. BGMS sent home information on Friday with each student, along with a Chromebook and a charger. Some instructions for completing this work may have changed, please listen to all of my message. All class work for all classes will be uploaded into a Google Classroom for each period by the student’s teacher. That is why we sent home all the Chromebooks, so they can access work on line. All teachers will be putting the first week assignments into their Google Classroom by 10:00 am tomorrow. This will be work that your student can do without your help. Please do not send any children to school, or come to the school campus tomorrow. If your student does not have a Chromebook, a charger, or cannot get their assignments through the Google Classroom, please call the school office and let us know, we will tell you what to do. Give your students’ name, your phone number, or email address, and your need to Pam or Tiffany. Techers are not on site, and we will not be able to handle a large number of people coming to school. We will call you regarding next steps. Any questions, please call our office between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Thank you for your attention, and your participation in keeping our students leaning during these times when working together is essential to our well-being. Goodbye.
All school sites will be open on Monday for students to get any materials they need, but normal in-class instruction will be suspended until April 13. Students will be expected to begin their packets or online instruction. Please say turned into information because this is a changing situation. It will be our hope to have our libraries open for students who need access. Breakfast and lunch will be provided through the high school in a pick up and go fashion.
I am meeting with the county health department, doctors and the other superintendents from the county today at 12:00. We will be determining when and for how long schools will need to be closed. This is a unique situation and it is important to get the best information available. Please look for a posting at 2 pm for an update. I am fully aware of the reasons to close and stay open.

Hello BGMS Parents, This is Ms. Munguia with announcements for this week. This month’s WUSD Board meeting will focus on Baechtel Grove Middle School. It will take place in the BGMS cafeteria, on Wednesday, beginning at 5:00 pm. On Friday we issued every sixth grader their own Chromebooks, making BGMS one to one using these devices in all grades. Although sixth graders will not be taking their Chromebooks home, it is important for us to know which of our students in all grade levels can access regular internet at home. Internet that students can access with their Chromebook devices, if there would be a need to have them do school work at home. First period teachers in sixth and seventh grades, and third period teachers in eighth grade will be asking students if they can access internet service at home. Early High School parents have a very important parent meeting at Willits High School tomorrow, at 5:30 pm, in room 4. She is a very knowledgeable Triple P facilitator. The BGMS School Site Council meeting has been rescheduled from last week to this Thursday beginning at 3:15 pm, in the library. Hello BGMS Parents, This is Ms. Munguia. I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season, and that we are all ready to come back to school in this new year, tomorrow, Monday, January 6, 2020. I want to first of all remind parents that seventh and eighth graders can only take their Chromebooks home if they have purchased insurance. Only the Early High School students actually need their Chromebooks to do their homework. Most students are not doing any homework on their Chromebooks, and do not need to take them home, but everyone must bring their Chromebooks to school every day, regardless of if they think they are going to use them or not. Early High School will have a parent/student workshop on Thursday, beginning at 5:30 pm, in room 7. This will be an overview of how students should study and do homework as they move to high school. Students will be given credit for attendance. We want all parents to attend as well. I know that many students are working on their Science Fair projects. The Science Fair Boards are due this Friday, January 10th, to be handed in to the Science Teacher. We will have the BGMS Science Fair judging on January 13th, next Monday. If you would like to help by judging the projects, please call the school, and leave a message for Ms. Hendrix. They play Upper Lake at Upper Lake beginning at 4:00 pm. On Wednesday the basketball teams play Kelseyville, the girls at home and the boys at Kelseyville, beginning at 4:00 pm. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.

Tuesday the AR Goal Achievers take a field trip to the Noyo Theatre to watch a movie, as a reward for their efforts. Thursday the BGMS Site Council will meet, in the library, beginning at 3:15 pm. Hello BGMS Parents, This is Ms. Munguia with a correction for the trimester 1 report cards that you have received, or will shortly receive in the mail. The total grade point average, or GPA, is not calculated correctly on the report cards that were sent in the mail. We had an error in how the GPA was calculated. If you have access to Aeries and look under grades for your student, that calculation is correct. If you do not have access to Aeries, or would like us to send a corrected copy home, please call the office and we will give a copy to your student when we return on December 2nd. Have an enjoyable week off, and a happy Thanksgiving Day. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.
Hello BGMS Parents, This is Ms. Munguia with announcements for this week. We would also like to honor Ms. Materne by having a moment of silence on Thursday in memory and recognition of her work here in the Willits Unified School District. We are sending this message so that you can inform your child if they are not already aware of the situation. As a community we feel it is important to honor those that cared enough to teach the children in our community. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.

Also, as the weather begins to get cold, and we experience more colds, we are asking parents and community members for donations of facial tissues and hand sanitizer to Baechtel Grove Middle School. These can be brought to the main office, and thank you for your support. And finally do not forget that we have a book fair this week in the library. There is a great selection of paperbacks for middle school students. Come by any time between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm and visit our Book Fair, this week. Thank you for your attention and good bye.
